For March’s Reading Month, State Representative Mike McFall read to Barber Preparatory Academy’s 3rd Grade Scholars!!!!! Representative Mike McFall graced our 3rd Grade classroom with his presence, engaging our young scholars in the wonderful world literature. With enthusiasm and warmth, he read aloud to our students, captivating their imaginations and instilling in them a love for reading.

Mrs. Arnold recently graced the airwaves with an enthralling radio interview in which she shared her inspiring vision for the upcoming 2023/2024 school year. With a strong commitment to student success and a deep passion for education, she has set her sights on creating an unforgettable academic journey for all.
Mrs. Arnold was born and raised in Detroit, MI. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. After receiving her degree, Mrs. Arnold worked as a receptionist at an architecture firm in Downtown Detroit before realizing that she needed to be in a career that required her to be a lifelong learner and have more of an impact on others. After one year, Mrs. Arnold returned to school at the University of Michigan in Dearborn where she received her Master of Arts degree in Teaching and began her career as an educator, a career that allows her to fulfill her purpose.
Mrs. Arnold brings over twenty years of experience working in urban education. She has served students and teachers as a middle school teacher, as a teacher liaison, lead teacher, and intervention specialist. It was during her time as a classroom teacher she decided to pursue a Master of Science in Educational Leadership degree from Madonna University.
When asked what made her leave the comforts of her classroom, she states that “being a school leader allows me to impact students in the entire school not just those who enter my classroom for an hour or two each day.”
For Mrs. Arnold it is a privilege to lead the talented staff and students within the Barber Preparatory Academy community.
“My goal is to continue to provide a supportive climate and culture at Barber Prep that is conducive to teaching and learning. By doing so, I believe that each student and staff member can experience growth to their highest potential.”

Deloris E. Jordan, an esteemed author, entrepreneur, and the eldest sister of the iconic Michael Jordan, is poised to make a profound impact on the youth programs and schools in Detroit. She will deliver her empowering message, “You possess the strength to overcome any situation,” during two significant community events.
The initial event, scheduled for July 22, 2024, will take place at Barber Preparatory Academy in Highland Park, Michigan, marking a momentous milestone for the academy. Known for its exceptional educational standards and nurturing environment, Barbra Prep will welcome students from across the district during this event. Parents and guardians can anticipate a comprehensive introduction to the academy’s curriculum, the opportunity to meet the dedicated staff, and a glimpse into the exciting opportunities awaiting students in the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. The enrollment process will be made more accessible through a collaboration with The School District of the City of Highland Park Board of Education District Summer Jazzy Jam, which will be held at Edith Perchman Park, adjacent to Barber Preparatory Academy, located at 45E. Buena Vista St., Highland Park, MI 48203.
Representatives from Barber Preparatory Academy will be present at the Jazzy Jam event to assist families with the registration process and address any inquiries they may have. This vibrant community gathering will feature live music, a backpack giveaway, food vendors, animal farms, a mobile selfie museum, bounce houses, and family-friendly activities, creating a festive atmosphere for current and prospective students and their families. Families interested in securing a spot for their child at Barber Preparatory Academy are encouraged to attend the Jazzy Jam and take advantage of this opportunity.
In collaboration with Barber Preparatory Academy and the Treasures Within Youth Mentorship Program, Deloris E. Jordan will share her transformative message during this open-enrollment event. The academy is considering implementing the Treasures Within Youth Mentorship Program, which will provide valuable mentorship opportunities to young students. As part of this initiative, the students will organize a fundraising event to raise awareness for the program. Attendees can enjoy homemade lemonade, delectable food, and dessert trucks. Moreover, there will be a DJ and a Mobile Selfie Museum where guests can take selfies with celebrity guests and influencers from the community.
Two students participated in the Grand Prix Design Challenge sponsored by Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Southeastern Michigan. Rashawn Holley and Liyah Marks. Rashawn Holley’s Mural was one of the 8 murals that was selected.
